5 Things I Love About Color Guard and Winter Guard

5 Things I Love About Guard

I would say being at guard rehearsal is like being at a second home. I get to see my friends, do what I love, and challenge myself.

I’ve had so much fun throughout my years in guard, and I’d advise anyone interested to give it a shot.

Here’s a little list of why I love guard so much, and I hope you can take something away from it.

Learning a new skill.

Learning how to spin guard equipment is a very unique skill to build. You learn how to move and control your body in ways that are much different from other sports or activities. You get to work with a team, and put on impressive musical performances.

It’s an experience you can’t have from anything else.

Making new friends.

I’ve made so many friends and met so many people through guard. I get to rehearse and perform with my best friends, and I’m so thankful for it.

I wouldn’t have met a lot of important people in my life if I hadn’t joined guard.

Performing.

I love the performing aspect of guard. At first it was pretty intimidating, but now I just see performances as an opportunity to put on the coolest show I can. The team gets to compete, win awards, and bond with each other.

It’s a time to show the skills you’ve built and the growth you’ve made, which I think is awesome.

Watching shows.

As well as performing, watching others perform is fun too. Watching other shows is not only entertaining, but also inspiring.

It’s motivation to try new things and challenge yourself.

When I’m able to watch my friends perform in different WGI or DCI groups, it makes me really happy and proud. I love getting to go to those shows with my guard and band friends.

Making fun memories.

I’ve been able to make so many fun memories in guard. From goofing around at rehearsals, to goofing around at shows, I have a lot of fun with my teams.

Working to build up friendships and my own skill set has allowed me to really enjoy my time in guard. The teams I’m on definitely put in the work, but we also have our share of fun moments.
